29-Apr-2010
BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the leading international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, is pleased to confirm the appointment of Graham Ellis as Business Director for the Americas region. He will be based in the New York office.
BMT Marine & Offshore Surveys Ltd (incorporating The Salvage Association) is a leading international marine surveying and technical consultancy, operating from a worldwide network of offices offering unparalleled access to renowned experience and advanced technology.
A qualified and experienced Marine Engineer, Graham was previously employed by corporate giants Texaco and P&O. He has been with the company since 1983, joining it under its previous incarnation as The Salvage Association. Since that time Graham has served in both the London and Rotterdam offices as well as Dubai, where he has spent the last 22 years fulfilling the role of Business Director for the Middle East & India region since 2003.
Graham joined the Dubai office at the time of the Iran/Iraq war and witnessed various major casualties notably the bombing of, what was then, the largest vessel in the world, a 550,000 ton tanker used as a mother vessel in the southern Persian Gulf. At the end of that war, Graham was the first Surveyor into Iraq looking at the condition of various vessels that had been detained there throughout the war years. Subsequently, Graham experienced another first on being the first Surveyor into India just three days after a severe cyclone struck the Gujarat region. In this incident casualty instructions totaled some 68 vessels all of which required local catastrophe management.
During his time in Dubai, Graham has been involved with various shipyard incidents and marine projects throughout the whole of the Middle East and India region. This experience has been put to good use when designing various condition and risk assessment survey formats.
Graham brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him to New York. He is looking forward to the challenge of building on BMT's existing client base and strengthening capabilities and services in the USA, Canada and South America to deliver the highest quality marine survey, consultancy, warranty and pre-risk services to the maritime and offshore markets.
